old age, wasted youth

The Happy Light

Youth sleeps and dreams of the future
Old age stirs and dreams of the past
To youth the sun it slowly rises
To the old the sun it sinks too fast
All hearts are gladdened by the light
That grows brighter towards the tunnel's end
And all hearts are saddened by the dark
That descends, unnoticed, onto a beloved friend
A happy light bathes in the starlit sky
And glows from birth until death
Where youth and old age are fused in time
Within the first and the very last breath.
