A New Town

The scent of morning misty dew
From meadows drenched in dawn,
Remind me of a long ago
Before the town was born
When sleepy hamlets met the day
With ground mist and cock crow,
And willow trees would weep their tears
In streams of melting snow
Long before the rain came down -
The rain of bricks and tiles,
I would walk the endless fields
And jump the wooden stiles
A happy sheppard then was I,
Beneath auspicious skies,
But my world was gone within a blink
Of my now saddened eyes.
