madeley, shropshire, mining town, pit

Kemberton Pit

Kemberton Pit, blackish spit
Bring out the ghosts, bring out the dead
Rip out the heart of Madeley Town
And serve on a silver salver
Developers gorge like carrion foul,
Grimace and gurn, drool and scowl
Something hidden has been disturbed
Bulldozers levelling unperturbed
An old woman curses and turns her head
An echoed voice, "no choice"
The ghosts will return from whence they have fled.
