the lion. the unicorn, the crown, pubs, memory lane

Three Taverns

The smoke from the chimneys
Is taking me away
To a little market town
On a long forgotten day
The weather was freezin'
But the crown was nice and warm
Dogs lay on the carpet
Beer-stained and worn.

And it's all a distant haze
But I loved every moment of those days.

The Church bells ringin'
Are stealing me away
To a hearty Sunday roast
On a half-remembered day
The sun it was baking
But the Unicorn was cool
The fag-ends were floatin'
In a little pilsner pool.

And it's all a distant haze
But I loved every moment of those days.

The wind in the girders
Blows my mind away
To the time when we first met
On a stormy Winter's day
The rain it was a pouring
We only meant to stay for one
But we made merry in the Lion
'Til the beer and rain was gone.

And it's all a distant haze
But I loved every moment of those days.

And it's all a drunken haze
But I loved every moment of those days.
The good old days.
